Web-Reliability.US (“we,” “us”) provides Windows-to-Linux desktop migration services. This policy explains what data we collect, how it’s protected, and your rights over it — separately from the technical data-handling protocols already described in our Master Migration & Data Protection Agreement.
What Client Data We Collect
- Contact and intake information: Name, email, and details you provide through our contact form or hardware compatibility check (device make/model, CPU, GPU, primary use case).
- Migration backup data: During an active migration engagement, your files are encrypted client-side on your own machine before transfer — see “How Your Migration Data Is Handled” below.
- Site usage data: Standard server logs (IP address, browser user agent) for security and spam prevention on form submissions.
We do not collect payment card data directly — payment processing is handled by our third-party payment processor under their own privacy terms.
How Your Migration Data Is Handled
This is separate from general site data and follows the stricter protocol outlined in our Migration Agreement:
- Client-side encryption: Your files are encrypted on your own computer, using open-source tools (Restic/Borg) over SSH, before anything leaves your machine.
- Zero-knowledge architecture: Encryption keys are managed on your local terminal. We do not have plaintext access to your backup contents, in transit or at rest.
- Storage location: Encrypted backups are stored exclusively on our dedicated backup infrastructure in the East United States.
- Credential handling: Where a migration involves moving saved credentials (e.g., browser-saved passwords), these are migrated directly into an encrypted password manager (Bitwarden or KeePassXC) rather than being stored or viewed by us in plaintext at any point.
- Retention: Migration backups are permanently and cryptographically deleted exactly 14 days after project close, per the schedule in our Migration Agreement.
GDPR Compliance (EU/UK Visitors)
If you are located in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, export, or request deletion of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because migration backups are client-side encrypted with keys held on your own device, we are technically unable to access their contents even upon request — deletion requests for migration data are fulfilled by triggering our standard purge protocol. CCPA Compliance (California Clients)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of that information, and opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information to third parties. Requests can be submitted to [email protected].
Data Retention Policy
- Contact form and intake data: Retained for the duration of an active engagement plus a reasonable follow-up period, then deleted upon request or after a period of inactivity.
- Migration backup payloads: Deleted on a strict 14-day post-project schedule (see above) — never retained indefinitely.
- Site logs: Retained only as long as necessary for security and spam-prevention purposes.
Comments and Media
If visitors leave comments on this site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to help with spam detection. Please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as this data can be extracted by visitors who download the image.
Cookies
Standard WordPress functional cookies apply for comment convenience and login sessions where applicable. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
